Tooth Fillings
Tooth coloured restorative fillings are also called composite resin restorations or white fillings. These types of fillings are placed in decayed or fractured teeth. Tooth coloured fillings are built up in thin layers and bond directly to the remaining tooth structure.
At Stewart Baybayan Family Dentistry we sculpt your resin fillings to have a natural tooth like appearance. Tooth coloured fillings are not only aesthetically pleasing results but also restore and strengthen a tooth. One advantage of white fillings involves the removal of less natural tooth structure during a cavity-filling procedure when compared to metal filling procedures.
Root Canal Treatment
Inside the tooth under the layers of enamel and dentin is a soft tissue called the dental pulp. The pulp extends from the crown of the tooth down to the tooth’s root tip. The pulp consists of blood vessels and nerves. Bacteria can enter your tooth from deep cavities and cracks causing the tooth to abscess. An abscessed tooth is an infection in the pulp which can happen either due to bacteria or trauma. During root canal treatment, the infected pulp is removed and the interior of the tooth is systematically cleaned, disinfected and then filled. Without root canal therapy the tooth will need to be extracted. If left untreated, an abscessed tooth can cause serious health risks. A crown is recommended for the tooth after a root canal has been completed.
